Black pepper is the dried, unripe berry of Piper nigrum, grown in Kerala and Karnataka. Indian grades such as Malabar Garbled and Tellicherry Garbled Extra Bold are known worldwide; trade specifications state the bulk density in grams per litre (for example 500 g/l or 550 g/l), along with light berries, moisture and admixture.
