Green cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum) is grown in the hill districts of Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, with Idukki in Kerala the best-known growing area. Pods are graded by diameter (for example 6–7 mm, 7–8 mm, 8 mm and above), a uniform green colour and well-filled seeds. Bigger, greener pods command higher prices.
