Barley is a winter (rabi) cereal grown in India mainly in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana. Feed barley is used in cattle and poultry rations, while malting barley is selected for germination and protein content for the brewing and malt-extract industries.
Pearled and flaked barley are also used in soups, breakfast cereals and multigrain foods.
